From the harbour there is only a short walk to the city center. You can easily have a walk through the beautiful, mysterious green garden of the city. In this park you can for example find exciting sculptures made by the artist Arvid Källström called “Lekande Barn”, “Råbock”, “Näckrosen” and “Nätdragerskan”.
The city park of Oskarshamn
Located next to a beautiful bird pond in the outskirts of Oskarshamns city park you can find our big themed play park. Here you and your little ones can play in a pirate ship, have a go in the funicular railway or any of the other slides. For the smallests ones you can find several climbing frames with a ground covered safely with an elastic rubber mat. A little oasis for both the big and the small ones where you can find a kiosk nearby that offers a wide range of ice creams and refreshments.
City culture of Oskarshamn
A little closer to the city center you will find Kulturhuset – the cultural house of Oskarshamn. Here you will find the library of the city. And as if that were not enough you will also find two classical tourist attractions that has made Oskarshamn a city worth to remember: Döderhultarmuseet -“The Döderhultar museum” with around 200 of the famous Axel “Döderhultarns” Peterssons wodden sculptures! You will also find Sjöfartsmuseet -“The seafaring museum” which gives you an interesting insight of Oskarshamn and its history regarding seafaring. If you would like to experience even more culture, you should be heading off to Fredriksbergs Herrgård. A mansion that is located 2,5 swedish kilometers from the ferry and that offers a beautiful pompous building surrounded by beautiful nature for you to have a walk within.
Besväret and Fnyket are the two oldest city parts of Oskarshamn. Here you can find beautiful small wooden houses located in quaint alleys surrounded by cobblestones that reach down all the way to the harbour. Even here you can find yourself in a little oasis, and if you are craving for a coffee with something sweet you have arrived at the right place. A little visit at Café Shalom located in the very beginning of Besväret can satisfy even the most picky person.

In the very city center you can find boutiques for when you would like to do some shopping as well as for when you are in need of a coffee break. Here you can find Nilssons, Espresso House and Flanadens confectionery that all proudly offer tasty pastries, delicious coffee and a nice environment. And if you rather prefer an ice cream of great quality you will be able to find the Glasscafé Mandarinen at Stora Torget.
The port area of Oskarshamn
Båt – och maskinmuseet – “The boat and machine museum” give you an insight into Oskarshamns shipyard history. Here you will also find an incredible overview of the town and the harbor. In the port area you can discover several places where you can enjoy a fika, ice cream or dinner. Everything from delicious food to an ice cold drink at Seglarhyllan, pizza, asian fusion or a gourmet dinner at Badholmen. Or why not just stop at one of the playgrounds while you are strolling around in the harbour. You will find one playground at Badholmen and one at Brädholmen. Furthermore, right next to the bridge that crosses over to Badholmen, you can find the sailing vessel Shalom, a beautiful old sailing ship to admire. Are you in the mood for playing some basketball and find yourself carrying a ball with you, you will see that there is a basketball plan located at Brädholmen for you to have a go at.
Having a glimpse at “Långa Soffan” is a must when you are paying a visit in Oskarshamn. The couch is actually the oldest and longest couch in the world! It had its 150th birthday the year of 2017 and is measuring up to 72 swedish meters. At this couch, several people have waved goodbye to the sailors going out on adventures. A perfect place to have a glimpse out on the harbour while you are enjoying an ice cream.
Time for a swim?
Is the ice cream not cooling you down enough? Is it perhaps so that you need to take a swim in the ocean? There are two wonderful bathing spots to choose from that are located around three Swedish kilometers from the center. Havslätts Camping that are located at the northern part of the city and First Camp Gunnarsö that are located in the southern part of the city both offer a beautiful environment and lovely bathing spots.
If you are getting hungry after a swim you will find restaurants at both of the camping places. Nearby Gunnarsö you will also be able to find “Liljeholmens stearinfabrik”, a factory that produces and sells beautiful candles in different shapes and sizes.
If you are in the mood for taking the car and head outside the center of Oskarshamn while you are waiting for the ferry you can head towards Figeholm that is located a few swedish miles north of the city. With its beautiful nature Figeholm is popular for those who would like to do an outdoor trip. In Figeholm you can also find “Skurö Gårdsbutik” which is a store that produces and offers homemade cheese, and various delicious treats. If you decide to head towards the southern part you will find Påskallavik where you have Hamncaféet – “the harbour café”, gästis – a guest house and Källströmsgården. At Källströmsgården you can have a look at their art exhibition and various sculptures.
There are multiple beautiful nature experiences to be seen here in the municipality of Oskarshamn. During your time waiting for the ferry the Stenhuggarmuséet in vånevik, beautiful Kristdala and Stensjö by are only a few examples that are worth a visit. Many establishments around the municipality offer a whole lot of locally produced food and delicacies. The outstanding and award-winning delicacies from Lindhags is something that you cannot miss. Panncackes will never be the same as soon as you have tried “Pangsylt”, and the barbeque plate will never taste the same without the homemade chillisauce from Skälshults gård.
If you are in the mood for sporty activities while you are waiting for the ferry, Skorpetorps golf course offers 18 exciting holes with a pleasant golf restaurant.
