Welcome to Liljeholmens factory shop, the world’s largest candle producer and one of Sweden’s oldest companies still in existence is based here, in Oskarshamn.
Next to the harbour inlet is Liljeholmens candle factory, which has been here since 1970. Today it produces more than 14,000 tonnes of candles every year. Next to Liljeholmens candle factory in Oskarshamn is the popular factory shop. Here you can buy both standard candles and ‘seconds’, produced next door in the factory.
The shop also has posters, trays and matchboxes featuring designs from old posters from Liljeholmens’ vast archive, along with interior design products. One of the most popular things to buy at the shop are wick cuttings, which can be purchased in bulk. They’re really useful for lighting a fire on cold evenings.
The shop also has a small exhibition about Liljeholmens’ long history, with interesting objects from the archives, including moulds, candleholders designed by Carl Malmsten, books and brochures. Liljeholmens factory shop is the perfect place to visit to buy a memento of Oskarshamn, whatever the season.
Lars Johan Hierta, who also founded the Aftonbladet newspaper, started Liljeholmens Technical Factory in Stockholm in 1839. Growing demand for candles meant the Stockholm factory was eventually too small, and production moved to Oskarshamn. The Oskarshamn factory opened in 1970 and is today the world’s largest factory specialising in candle manufacturing.
