The great outdoors

Oskarshamn Municipality has loads of great places to fish. Along the Baltic coast you can catch pike, brown trout and perch for most of the year. The Småland forest landscape offers a huge number of lakes, with everything from ‘put and take’ rainbow trout fishing to idyllic forest lakes with pike, perch, salmon, zander and more.

You’ll also find a stretch of the Emån river here, which is world-renowned for its large brown trout, which have featured several times in international record weights. Here are some tips for the best places to fish and enjoy a wonderful outdoor experience, whether you’re fishing by the coast or a lake.

Baltic Sea

Experience fishing on the coast in Oskarshamn. We have a beautiful archipelago with lots of great opportunities for fishing. The Baltic Sea is subject to the law on fishing with handheld gear. This allows fishing without a licence in specific waters using handheld fishing gear. Fish species that thrive in the Baltic Sea include pike, perch, cod, Baltic herring, salmon, brown trout and various types of whitefish.

Lake Boarumegöl

Enjoy wonderful lake fishing in Kristdala. Here you can find pike, perch, zander and crayfish. Fishing on the lake requires a fishing licence.

Emån River

Come and fish on Småland’s largest river. The river attracts anglers from all over the world to catch salmon, brown trout, chub, pike, perch and whitefish. And as the river is long, you can also fish on the river in our neighbouring municipalities of Högsby and Mönsterås. Fishing on the Emån river requires a fishing licence.

Virån river and lakes

Virån is a river with connected lakes north of Oskarshamn where you’ll find brown trout, perch and pike. Fishing here requires a fishing licence.

Lake Hummeln

Why not try your luck on Kristdala’s Lake Hummeln, which was formed by a meteorite strike. This is a lake with very high water quality. Fish that thrive here include pike, perch, burbot and different species of whitefish. On the lake’s northern shore is a slipway, which is free of charge to use. Fishing on the lake requires a fishing licence.

Marströmmen

In the very north of Oskarshamn is Marströmmen, a fast-flowing river with connected lakes. Here you’ll find sea trout, pike, perch and burbot. Fishing here requires a fishing licence.

Quarry fly fishing

Try fly fishing in a quarry. You’ll find exclusive ‘catch and release’ fly fishing at two quarries outside Misterhult, where you can catch brown trout and rainbow trout. A guide and boat are available. To fish here, book on their website.

Hällesjöarna Lakes

Dreaming of landing the perfect rainbow trout? Then Hällesjöarna lakes is the place for you. Here you’ll enjoy lake fishing on ‘put and take’ waters. ‘Put and take’ refers to stocking fish for sport fishing in waters where the species can’t normally reproduce.

Stora Hällesjön, the larger of the two lakes, has boats you can use free of charge through Fliseryd Sport Fishing Club. The smaller Lilla Hällesjön offers only fly fishing from the shore. A fishing licence is required for fishing at both lakes.

Fishing License

Fishing on most lakes requires a fishing licence. They can be easily purchased online at: fiskekort.se and ifiske.se.
